Welcome to Year 1!

We are so excited to begin this incredible learning journey with you. Year 1 is full of new adventures, challenges, and fun, and we can’t wait to get started!

Meet Our Teachers
In Year 1, we have two wonderful teachers:

• Mrs. Hunter will be with us on Mondays and Tuesdays.
• Mrs. Meldrum will join us on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

We’re also lucky to have the fantastic Mrs. Mohseni with us every day to support our learning and make sure we have the best experience possible.

Class Information

Class Overview
Year 1 is a time for exploration, creativity, and building strong foundations for the future. Throughout this year, students will engage in a variety of exciting subjects, including:

• Literacy: Building reading and writing skills through fun activities, stories, and phonics.
• Maths: Exploring numbers, shapes, measurements, and simple problem-solving.
• Science: Discovering the world around us with hands-on experiments and learning about plants, animals, and materials.
• Art & Design: Using our imagination to create beautiful artwork and develop our creative skills.
• Physical Education: Keeping active with fun games and activities to help build coordination and teamwork.

Learning Goals
Our main goal in Year 1 is to build a love of learning while developing confidence in every subject. By the end of the year, students will have gained key skills, a curiosity for the world, and the ability to express their ideas clearly.

Classroom Environment
We strive to create a welcoming, positive, and inclusive environment where all students feel safe to explore and learn. Our classroom is full of areas for communication, interactive learning tools, and areas for group work, quiet reading, and creative activities.

Classroom Essentials
Please ensure that your child brings the following items to school every day:

• Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is important for learning and concentration.
• Book Bag: This will be used to bring home reading books, letters, and any other important items.

PE Days
Our PE lessons will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please make sure your child has their PE kit on on these days.

Key Author
This year, we will be exploring the wonderful stories of Julia Donaldson. Her books are full of adventure, magic, and fun, and we can’t wait to read them together!
